The master's International Development Studies also takes a critical interdisciplinary perspective in the analysis of international development. This study offers various specialisations: Sociology of Development, Economics of Development, Inclusive Innovation, Communication and Development, and Politics and Governance of Development. The master's Tourism, Society and Environment is more specifically oriented on the interaction between tourism and development.
Environmental Sciences
In the master's Environmental Sciences you will learn to develop innovative methods to improve the sustainability of the living environment through use of natural science-, technological- and social science perspectives. The use of the term ‘environment’ indicates that the master's Tourism, Society and Environment approaches leisure time and tourism mainly in relation to complex social, cultural, economic and geographic change processes. As a result, the study programme takes on a socio-cultural and cultural-geographic angle.
Landscape Architecture and Planning
The master's Landscape Architecture and Planning mainly addresses the manner by which concrete plans and designs for future landscaping are created and supported. The Tourism, Society and Environment study programme, however, studies a landscape from experience, recreational and tourism perspectives. Besides recreation and tourism, public housing, agriculture, industry and infrastructure play a large role in the master's Landscape Architecture and Planning study programme.
