Registration and deregistration during the academic year

According the ‘regulations for enrolment’ Student Charter - WUR, you are allowed to re-enrol during the academic year. You can re-enrol as per September 1, January 1, February 1, March 1, May 1 and July 1.

For whom?

This applies to all bachelor's and master's students who have been enrolled at Wageningen University for at least one month and who wish to re-enrol for the same study programme.

What are the advantages and disadvantages

If you decide to terminate your enrolment during the academic year because you want to stop your studies temporarily, please check the pros and cons carefully.

Advantages

Of course, for all months that you are not enrolled, you don’t need to pay tuition fees. That is a big advantage. (Exception: you will not receive a refund if you deregister on 1 July or 1 August).

Disadvantages No longer a student

Please realise that when you terminate your enrolment, you are no longer a student of Wageningen University. This means that you have no longer access to Bright Space and your WUR account will be closed. You also will not receive any mailings from your study advisor or SSC. Moreover, you are not allowed to take any courses or to receive any supervision.

Marks not yet booked

If you did a test or handed in a paper for which you did not receive a mark yet, you can still terminate your enrolment. However, this is only possible if the test date or the date you handed it in your last paper is in the month that you were still enrolled.

Enrolment for future courses, tests and resits will be cancelled.

Also check “+ How and when (including deadlines)” how to proceed.

Housing

If you rent a student room, for example from Idealis, you may have to leave your room within a certain period. Always check your contract carefully before ending your enrolment.

Student loan and/or OV-student travel product

Terminating your enrolment has consequences for your student loan from DUO and the student travel product on your OV-chipkaart. During the period you are not enrolled, you are not entitled to study finance. If you receive these, please visit the DUO website and follow the steps to cancel your DUO products.

For non-EEA students: Residence permit

When you deregister from Wageningen University, we are legally obliged to inform the Immigration Authorities (IND) that you are no longer enrolled. This means that your residence permit for the Netherlands, based on study, is no longer valid as from the day your registration at Wageningen University ends, no matter what the expiry date on your residence permit card is. You must leave the Netherlands within one month from the end date of your registration.

For non-EU students

For non-EU students, temporary deregistration from the Wageningen University has additional consequences. Therefore it is necessary to contact SSC before you deregister. Depending on your plan and expectations about returning, SSC can advise you, especially about legal residence.

Please note that if you want to re-enrol, we will have to apply for a residence permit for you again. This process takes at least 60 days and requires the complete payment of the invoice (tuition fee, living allowance of 12 months and dues) before we can start the application with the IND. For more detailed information, see Residence permit current students - WUR, section Termination of enrolment for a short period.

How and when (including deadlines)

Terminate your enrolment

The request for terminating the enrolment must be submitted via www.studielink.nl

The enrolment will be terminated as of the first day of the month following the month in which the Student Service Centre has received the request. You can never terminate your enrolment retroactivity. So, if you submit the request on April 1 (for example), your enrolment will be terminated as per May 1.

Enrolments for future courses, tests and resits

Students who were enrolled for a course, a test or a resit before they terminated their enrolment, will be disenrolled from all courses, tests of resits when this is scheduled on a date after the termination of your enrolment.

This means that after you are enrolled as student again, you always must enrol again for a course, test or resit! Therefore, we have set re-enrolment deadlines for re-enrolment as a student, so you are always on time to (again) enrol for a course, test or re-exam.

Re-enrolment during the academic year - for Dutch, EU and non-EU students

In order to re-enrol, you should send an email to ssc@wur.nl. We will then send you an e-mail with further instructions. You will be asked to go to our application portal, where you can submit your official request for enrolment. Please note that you must submit your application via our portal before the deadline! Re-enrolling during the academic year is not possible via Studielink.

In order to be able to register on time for courses and/or (re)exams, there are enrolment deadlines per period. This means that before the deadline you have to submit the application and the fees have to be paid.
