Samenvatting

This report describes the results of indicative ammonia emission measurements on one location with different
production systems with slower growing broilers. The aim of this study was to get a first impression of the
ammonia emission from houses with slower growing broilers and a lower stocking density. This study was
conducted in the period January 2022 – February 2023 at one location with two identical houses within the
framework of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) "Slower growing broilers: Towards integrated sustainable
animal welfare" (BO-47-001-052). This PPP-project was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and
Food Quality and a consortium of various private partners from the slow-growing broiler sector. This study
showed that the ammonia emission on this farm with different production systems with slower growing
broilers averaged 95 ± 16 g NH3 per animal place per year. Since the measurements only took place at one
location and because there is a real chance that the ventilation rate, and therefore also the ammonia
emission, will be overestimated, the ammonia emission found in this study cannot be seen as a general
indication of the level of ammonia emissions from houses with slower growing broilers and lower stocking
density
